How to Include Resveratrol in Your Diet

My mother-in-law is a wine lover. She has a glass of the stuff on an almost daily basis because she knows the health benefits of it. She knows that wine has the phytoalexin known as resveratrol in it and that it may help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, and help lower blood sugars.

However, not everyone is a wine lover like my mother-in-law is. So does that mean the rest of us non-drinkers won’t be able to enjoy the benefits of the phytoalexin? Of course not! As a matter of fact, researchers recommend consuming red grapes rather than wine because it would take over 100 glasses of wine a day just to see reap the benefits of the phytoalexin.

Plus, drinking too much wine can actually cause your body to eliminate certain vitamins like B1, B3 and B5. Not to mention the toxic effect it can have on your liver.

Instead, researchers suggest eating whole red grapes since some studies show that they contain the same heart health benefits as wine. Whole grapes make a wonderful snack for kids too. And they can seem like more of a treat if you serve them straight from your freezer!

If whole grapes are not ideal, 100% natural red grape juice may be just as beneficial. However, not all grape juices are the same and many contain unnatural additives like high fructose corn syrup and sugar. The great thing about fruit juice is that it can be frozen as a treat too and kids love them!

For those of us who just aren’t too keen about red grapes, you may find that a natural vitamin high in
resveratrol is the perfect choice. Of course in the end you are the one with the power to decide which is right for your family’s health. It’s just a matter of which will you choose?
